Everyone knows the Smeg fridge. Fewer people know there is a dishwasher drawn to match it — same rounded fascia, same chrome handle, same deliberate refusal to look like an appliance. Put them in the same room and the kitchen has a theme rather than a fridge.

This is not a small fridge pretending to be a design object, either. At 2,050mm tall and 481 litres it is a full-size frost free fridge freezer with a double cooling system, two separate thermostats and a Life Plus 0°C zone for meat and fish. The dishwasher is a 13-place with eleven programmes, a third cutlery basket and Smeg's Planetarium wash system.

Fitting Notes

The fridge freezer is 2,050mm tall, 706mm wide and 711mm deep — 811mm once you include the handle, which is the figure that catches people out when there is an island opposite. Check the height against anything above the space and leave the ventilation gap Smeg specify at the back and top. Measure the narrowest point of the delivery route; this is a big, heavy appliance.

The dishwasher is 627mm deep, noticeably more than a standard 550mm integrated machine, so the run of units has to be deep enough to take it. It is 885mm tall and 598mm wide. It needs a cold fill, a waste connection and a socket.
